Here’s what previous participant say about Alison Shaw's
workshop at Sun to Moon Gallery...

Alison Shaw is a fantastic teacher. She has a great way of looking at your work and giving you ideas on how to improve and progress. There was a clear difference in my work from the start to the finish of the workshop . John G.

The Alison Shaw workshop I took at Sun to Moon Gallery in 2013 was fantastic. I’ve participated in several workshops through the gallery but Alison’s was the first multi-day workshop. She provided great prep and set up information, requested examples of the student’s previous work to evaluate where they were at as a photographer and then outlined the workshop structure so there were no surprises. We had six different location shoots with five editing/review/critiques.

This workshop was fast-paced and really helped me develop an efficient workflow. Up to this time I languished for hours processing a single photo but with editing time limited to 45 minutes to an hour with multiple photos needing to be processed, Alison demonstrated several processes that saved time developing and ultimately made you be more focused in-field to take better shots initially. Both Alison and Scot Miller were available in the field to help students determine good/interesting subject matters and answer camera questions but they didn’t take over. This workshop is fast-paced and filled with a great mix of education and hands-on experience. Well worth the time. Jim G.

The 3-day workshop with Alison Shaw was amazing from start to finish! From the early morning meet and greet to the wrap up on our final day, each day was packed to the brim with creative lectures, field trips, tips and tricks, wonderful slide shows, camaraderie and fantastic food. There was something for everyone's tastes in shooting locale ... early morning lakeside, urban street scenes and graffiti, historic villages, flora and fauna at several locations ... even a sculptor's studio in action.

Scot Miller and Alison did an excellent job of scouting the locations beforehand to ensure the right timing of the day and not wasting any time traveling during high traffic times. Alison is a warm and approachable artist ...so willing to share her knowledge and I learned a huge amount just seeing her in action. Her work is simply stunning and I was a bit star struck which she quickly put to rest by her wonderful demeanor. No less important was Scot Miller's presence throughout the workshop. Scot is a fantastic photographer and has a wealth of knowledge to share on photography and Dallas. Even better ... he's hilarious! He was quick to offer suggestions, helpful hints and some very good insights into each of the participant's work. They made a great team.

Finally ... no review of a Sun to Moon workshop could be complete without mention of Marilyn and her wizardry in the kitchen. Each day brought delicious luncheons and snacks that were fresh, creative and delicious. The result was a relaxing time to chat with each other and share a lot of laughs and experiences while trying to figure out just what went into that soup or salad.

I came away from the weekend with loads of images, tired but energized and completely inspired to keep working on my craft. With all that went into this workshop the price point was a steal! Thank you Alison, Scot and Marilyn for a perfect weekend. - Colleen G.

Fine Photographic Print by Alison Shaw, at Sun to Moon Gallery, Dallas, TX

Photography was getting stale. I was in a rut. The cameras themselves were becoming less and less interesting to me. The fun of the craft was gone – or at least was quickly slipping away. Then, I had the good fortune to discover Alison Shaw's workshop at Sun to Moon Gallery. And my life behind the lens changed.

Alison gave me a whole new perspective on taking a picture: Painting with light. Looking for the abstract in the everyday and finding the art in and among artifacts. The class pushed me. And I grew and from that I became a better photographer and a better critic of the art form. I learned how to edit. I realized for the first time the power of the medium – the grace of the frame. I learned to let the light lead me, instead of just chasing it.

Alison Shaw's workshop will fill you with imagination. She'll hurt your feelings. She'll make you cuss. And as she peels the layers off of your insecurities, she suddenly will make you a much better shooter. And that's what it is all about.

I am so honored to know her and to have taken her instruction during her workshops. Now, there's not a day that goes by that I don't have a camera in my hand and I am capturing something with a creative eye. It was Alison who helped me take the blinders off.

Alison’s class is worth the money. It is worth the time and above all else it is worth pouring yourself into. - John C.
