"I think the best way to learn is by doing. In my workshops I make sure that every student has the opportunity to practice the techniques that I teach. This will be a hands-on workshop, where you'll be able to use sample files to follow along as we process several images from beginning to end, and get feedback on processing some of your own photographs." – Michael Frye

Lightroom has rapidly become the software tool of choice for many photographers. It’s simple, yet powerful. It’s easy to use, but sophisticated enough to get great results with almost any image. In this class, renowned landscape photographer Michael Frye will introduce you to the essentials of Lightroom, then help you dive into the program’s more sophisticated features.

Come learn what’s new in Lightroom 6 and learn, step-by-step with hands-on lessons, how to process images from beginning to end, and make decisions along the way that convey your original vision for the photograph. You’ll learn how to use Lightroom’s tools, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, in easy-to-understand, hands-on lessons.

A PARTIAL LIST OF TOPICS TO BE COVERED:

– Importing images into Lightroom, and avoiding common pitfalls
– Editing and keywording
– Raw image workflow
– Finding the perfect white balance
– Balancing contrast with Lightroom's Highlights and Shadows tools
– Mastering curves
– Dodging and burning with the Adjustment Brush
– Sharpening and noise reduction - how to make large prints from small cameras
– Converting to black and white
– Automation - syncing adjustments across multiple images
– Using Lightroom’s HDR Merge and Panorama Merge (LR6)
– Other methods of exposure blending

Participants will be asked to submit “problem or challenging” RAW files in advance. Michael will select one from each participant and, towards the end of the workshop, will use Moon and Half Dome photo by Michael Frye, Sun to Moon Gallerythem as examples, briefly explaining and demonstrating the approach he would take in Lightroom with the files.

What to Bring:

Tables will be provided and you’ll need to bring your own laptop computer with Adobe Lightroom CC or ver. 6 installed (Lightroom 5 is acceptable, as there were minimal changes to the Develop module in LR6). Example files will be given out so you can follow along.

Experience:

This workshop is suitable for photographers of all levels except real beginners. You must have some previous experience with, and a working knowledge of, Lightroom. This is not an introduction to Lightroom.

Class Size:

The class size to 12 allows for great opportunities to interact with Michael.

All of Michael’s personal workshops and those for the Ansel Adams Gallery are already sold out through 2015. Don’t delay in taking advantage of this fantastic opportunity to work with one of the best!
