Tim Heitman will be in the gallery to talk about the images on display and sports photography in general. There are fascinating stories behind many of the images! This event, sponsored by Competitive Cameras, is free and open to the public.

For the first time ever, Sun to Moon Gallery features the sports genre of photography with prints by two of our area’s premiere sports photojournalists; Louis DeLuca, Senior Staff Photographer with The Dallas Morning News, and Tim Heitman, a freelance sports photographer for over 20 years, currently shooting for the Dallas Stars and USA Today Sports Images. “This exhibition offers Louis and Tim the opportunity to showcase some images that, while extremely compelling, are not typically featured in the media by editors,” states Gallery Director Marilyn Miller. “You will see some iconic and fast-action shots more typical for the genre, but you’ll also see interesting takes on quieter moments in sports. Sports! celebrates sports photography at its very best!”

Wintry Mix is just that; a mix of finely crafted photographic prints featuring images taken in winter by eight of our gallery photographers. From snowy scenes in the American west and east, to the starkness of Caddo Lake in January, and more… the gallery invites the public to come in from the cold and enjoy a variety black-and-white and color prints by the talented group of photographers. ABOUT THE SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHERS:
Louis DeLuca,Senior Staff Photographer with The Dallas Morning News, is widely recognized as one of the best sports photographers in the United States and has spent his 30-year career capturing memorable moments in history and individual people’s lives. He has covered 12 Super Bowls, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Finals, the Summer Olympics and the baseball World Series, as well as a variety of youth, high school and college sports events both in the north Texas area and nationwide. He has five times been named the Regional Photographer of the Year for the National Press Photographers Association, and has finished as runner-up five other times. Along with numerous awards in local, state and national competitions, Louis has also been published in Sports Illustrated, Life Magazine, ESPN the Magazine, Newsweek and the New York Times Magazine.
Tim Heitman has been a freelance sports photographer for over twenty years. He has worked with local professional teams and is currently Assistant Team Photographer for the Dallas Stars and a freelancer with USA Today Sports Images. Tim’s sports images have been published in nearly every major newspaper and sports magazine and he has photographed most of the major championship events. He says his style is "emotion in motion" and photojournalistic in nature, using available light and a mixture of lens to bring a much more diversified look to a typical photo shoot.
