VIDEOS
Recently, master photographer Alan Ross sat down in the gallery and we recorded him telling stories behind the making of a number of images featured in "ALAN ROSS: Forty Years in the West." We present the first four videos to you here. Please let us know if this is something you'd like to see more of in the future.
ANSEL ADAMS & GEORGIA O'KEEFFE (Alan Ross)
BRIDALVEIL FALL IN STORM (Alan Ross)
In July 1974, just a few days after Alan was hired by the legendary Ansel Adams to be his photographic assistant in Carmel (from 1974 to 1979), Alan made one of his most famous and best-selling images, "Bridaveil Fall in Storm." It's a powerful print, one that is nearing a sellout (we have print #135/150 hanging). Alan tells the story about taking the photograph, making the first print, and showing the print to Ansel Adams for the first time.
ANSEL ADAMS AND IMOGEN CUNNINGHAM (Alan Ross)
In 1975, famed photographer and fellow founding member of Group f/64, Imogen Cunningham was assigned by People Magazine to photograph Ansel Adams in his home. Alan, with camera in hand, was there to see it all unfold and in this short film he talks about what went into the making of the photograph that resulted in his fine print titled "Ansel Adams and Imogen Cunningham." It's a delightful print with lots of character and a great backstory.
OAK TREES, LBJ RANCH (Alan Ross)
In early Spring of 2011, Alan visited the LBJ Ranch, part of the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, in Stonewall, Texas with his 4x5 camera and made several photographs of oak trees that he has since made into beautiful prints, debuting them at Sun to Moon Gallery. In this interview, Alan tells the story about making of two photographs at the LBJ Ranch.
